    Overview

    we see ideas that work.
we connect people to ignite work.

    May 11, 2017 | 5 - 8 P.M.

SPARK Hollywood is an event that promotes innovation and entrepreneurship for local startups, entrepreneurs, small businesses and inventors in Hollywood and South Florida. The event has three main objectives:

    (1) provide a competition for selected contestants to pitch their idea or invention to a panel of judges to win prizes.

    (2) provide an opportunity for start-ups to showcase their ideas, inventions and products during a “trade show” open to the public.

    (3) provide an opportunity for early-stage entrepreneurs to learn about resources available in the City of Hollywood and the rest of the South Florida region while networking with potential investors and experts who may help start their ventures or grow existing endeavors.

There are no “typical applicants” for SPARK Hollywood. Entrepreneurs and ideas come from every walk of life, every industry sector, and every age group. Contestants can be individuals or a team developing an idea. Some entrepreneurs may have a new business which is already marketing and selling while others may only have a business concept and are working to get to market. Ideas and innovative products may be at any stage of development from creation of concept to a finished product or business.

SPARK Hollywood will be held on Thursday, May 11th, 2017 at Hollywood’s ArtsPark. Selected contestants will have the opportunity to give a three-minute presentation of their innovative idea/business to a panel of judges comprised of local community leaders, investors, and professionals. The judges will select the contestants whose ideas will be awarded first, second, and third place prizes based on a variety of criteria.

      Jeremy Ring - Keynote Speaker

State Senator at State of Florida

Ring was born in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1970, and attended Syracuse University, graduating in 1992 and later opening the first East Coast office of Yahoo. In 2006, when incumbent Democratic State Senator Skip Campbell was unable to seek re‐election due to term limits, Ring ran to succeed him in the 32nd District, which included Coral Springs, Pompano Beach, and Sunrise in northeastern Broward County. He faced Broward County Mayor Benjamin Graber and James W. Haddad in the Democratic primary and won.
In 2010, the Sun‐Sentinel endorsed Ring for re‐election praising his "willingness to work with rival Republicans to advance public policy" and his "firmer grasp of business developmentand the importance of properly funded and targeted university investments." Ring ended up
defeating Laffey in a landslide and received 63% of the vote.
Following the reconfiguration of the state's legislative districts in 2012, Ring was moved into the 29th District, which retained most of the territory that he had previously represented, while expanding westward into Weston. He won the Democratic primary uncontested, and faced college student Soren Swensen, the Republican nominee, in the general election. The
Sun‐Sentinel endorsed him for re‐election, arguing, "He's one of the few state lawmakers that can talk authoritatively about venture capital strategies one minute and devise a bill to tweak a problematic law to help city pension plans stay solvent the next." Ring easily defeated Swensen with 64% of the vote to win his final term in the State Senate.
